People: Johnny Depp officially joins Comanche Nation


Johnny Depp has officially joined the Comanche Nation.

The actor, 48, who is playing Tonto in a remake of "The Lone Ranger," has been invited to join the New Mexico-based tribe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The president of Americans for Indian Opportunity LaDonna Harris said: "Johnny will play the historic role of Toro, and it seemed a natural step to officially welcome our family Comanche.

"I approached, and Johnny was very receptive to the idea. Seemed proud to receive the invitation, and we are honored that they accepted with enthusiasm."

The "Dark Shadows," the actor said in the past that India has American ancestry of her great-grandmother, who was a Cherokee Indian.

Johnny attended the ceremony at LaDonna's house in Albuquerque, NM, where "The Lone Ranger" is being shot.
